JUST when you thought it was safe to go back on the internet, the Daily Mirror and the Daily Telegraph devote yet more space to another Google doodle. This is the equivalent of publishing a weather story every time it rains in Stornaway. The Telegraph tells us:
Thomas Edison, the American inventor, has been commemorated on his 164th birthday by a Google doodle displaying some of his greatest inventions.
What’s so special about a 164th birthday? Sergio Mendes is 70 today. Eva Gabor would have been 90. Burt Reynolds is 75. These are landmark birthdays. Why pick on Thomas Edison? And what’s this media infatuation with Google doodles? Are they a rare occurrence? Tell us Daily Telegraph.
Google is estimated to have used more than 900 doodles since 1998, including almost 300 last year, though many of these would only have been visible in certain countries.
Bobby Boris Pickett of the Crypt Kickers and Monster Mash fame would have been 73 today. Doodle that why don’t you? And give us some proper news for Heaven’s sake.
